The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system that is used to assess and score a candidate's profile to rank them in the Express Entry pool. It's used by the Canadian government to evaluate candidates for immigration to Canada through various economic immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.
The CRS calculator awards points for factors such as:
1. Age (maximum 110 or 100 points)
Points are awarded based on the age of the applicant. Younger applicants receive more points.
2. Level of Education (maximum 150 or 140 points)
Points are given for the level of education, with higher education resulting in more points.
3. Official Language Proficiency (maximum 160 or 150 points)
Points are awarded for proficiency in Canada’s official languages, English and French. The more proficient you are, the more points you get.
4. Canadian Work Experience (maximum 80 or 70 points)
More points are given to candidates with work experience in Canada.
5. Other Factors
These include having a provincial nomination (which adds 600 points to your score), having a job offer in Canada, or having work experience or education from another country.
6. Skill Transferability (maximum 100 points)
This combines certain aspects of the above elements to add additional points to your score. It includes language ability and education, language ability and work experience, and a combination of education and work experience.
7. Additional Points (maximum 600 points)
Candidates can gain additional points for a variety of factors, such as a sibling in Canada or strong French language skills.
The total maximum points one can achieve is 1200.
